Something Old, Something New
I updated my blog header, you like it? I spent the last week or so trying to come up with something classier to do with these two than sitting on a roof drinking beer but ultimately thats where they ended up. I don't think I ever posted the original designs of these guys (who are Puck of A Midsummer Nights Dream and Mercutio of Romeo and Juliet) because I thought they were too embarrassing (point of fact: they are) but I have since gotten over that and figure what the hell, might as well. Also they, show that I can use photoshop which is apparently very important according to craigslist. (Yes both these and the header are totally uninspired pieces of escapist drivel. No I do not care. I graduated three months ago and am still unemployed. Leave me alone.)
Anyway, from the vaults of a year or so ago:
These two are fun but I have no idea what to do with them since I am a terrible comedic writer. Maybe I'll throw some sort of non sequitorial nonsense with them together for MICE at the end of this month.
Speaking of which, I'm going to MICE on September 25th along with Alison Dubois, Amanda Greenberg, and Heather Benjamin. If you're in the Massachusetts are you should swing by and see us. More on that later...

Tattoos! The seal of Verona, plague doctors, cemeteries, and Queen Mab. What's not to like?
My intention was for him to be flipping the bird UK style. I now realize that this could be interpreted as an entirely different hand gesture. Oops.
Yes. They have tattoos of themselves as the comedy and tragedy masks.

Municipal Novelist
My final for Electric Book was a collaboration with the wonderful and ever talented Sophia Foster-Dimino. Consider it our love letter to Kafka and Messof's Randy Balma. We may not have as many seizure inducing flashing lights, but hopefully you will be just as frustrated by our not quite game not quite book as we were by playing Municipal Aborntionist. Enjoy!

I Am Not What I Am
More Electric Book. Had to create something with text as a character. Heavily influenced by the works of Hoogerbrugge who I highly recommend you check out. Click below to play.

3 out of 4
I got these done about a month ago. I've been waiting for them to finish healing before I took photos. I'm going back for the fourth one later this week. I'm really happy with them. I will repeat myself and say once again that Stephanie Tamez is amazing. Her line work with a giant pulsating machine is cleaner than my originals done with my dinky dip pen and she's also insanely fast and super friendly. She's awesome! Go to Brooklyn Adorned and give her business.

Küsse, Bisse, das Reimt Sich
So if you haven't read Kleist's Penthesilea I kind of just ruined the ending for you.. But aren't you curious now?

Monster Soundtrack
I'm taking a class all based on monsters which is pretty fun. Our first assignment was to make a 2:00 minute soundtrack. Mine's pretty lame but I had fun with it.

Pen and Ink - Tattoo Redo
I always intended to clean these guys up before I finally committed and got them but I've been putting it off until I took Pen and Ink. I've still got a couple of weeks left but our assignments are all open now so I figured I may as well go for it. I'm pretty satisfied with the results. I've just e-mailed the fantastically talented Stephanie Tamez who has done a lot of amazing engraving inspired tattoos, and if everything goes according to plan I should be getting these done sometime in the near future. I've got my fingers crossed....

Silkscreen - North by Northwest
Original Artwork by the lovely Sophia Foster-Dimino. Printy bits and uneven hand sewing by me.
Here's a closeup of the image as well.

Beginning Lithography - Indifferent Honest
A little bit about the process on this second image: I printed everything in red, then snake slipped and etched the hell out of the two figures in the foreground, printed it in blue, then ground down the stone with really fine carborundum so I could still see the image and added the background figures and printed the final layer. Yay printmaking!

Waterbase Silkscreen - Final Playbill(s)
Remember this? We had to keep going with it and do something else with the image so that turned into this project.
Originally I wanted the red to be magenta but I was stupid and didn't account for the fact that the ink was translucent. But thanks to the power of photoshop we can pretend that wasn't the case.

Beginning Lithography - Drowning
So, I don't know how much you know about lithography but it's really damn hard. First just preparing the stone to be drawn on takes a lot of time if you're new at what you're doing and then there are a lot of different ways to apply the image to the stone, some of which are more difficult than others. I made the mistake of trying to use tusche right off the bat, which is a wash medium that is very difficult to do properly. In retrospect, this was a very poor decision and this image had to be worked back into a variety of times before I was able to print and even now it still isn't quite where it's supposed to be. Anyway, that is why there are no posts for the first half of the semester for this class. It took me that long to make an image that wasn't totally destroyed in the process of trying to get all the chemical processes to work out.

Independent Study - Human Palimpsest
Half of this project was actually making a blog for it so for the most part I will re-direct you here. I'm in the process of putting an artist book together from the photos I took and that will go up here as well once I've finished.
