Lastly, some christmas thank you cards I made for relatives. They didn't actually come out that well but they look kind of ok in this photo... I'm blaming the easy-cut, silkscreen ink, computer paper combo...

Arg, I feel like I haven't made anything in the past couple of months but I guess I've been working on some stuff, I just haven't finished anything. I am 1/6 of the jam comic SUPER JAM ON TOAST which should be ready for the internet soon. And that bandaged mummy doodle is going to be a comic for the Dimensions anthology which my friend Zejian is coordinating. We are aiming to have it done for MoCCA at which we will tabling with a bunch of other folks who are also doing work for it.

Sorry this post is crazy long.

Sorry this blog is so neglected. My senior show was last week for which I and my six bestest buddies made many a cool thing but I foolishly neglected to take any photos so I will have to get them from someone else before I can show you. In the mean time, have some screen prints.

Beginning Lithography - Indifferent Honest

A little bit about the process on this second image: I printed everything in red, then snake slipped and etched the hell out of the two figures in the foreground, printed it in blue, then ground down the stone with really fine carborundum so I could still see the image and added the background figures and printed the final layer. Yay printmaking!

These are both autographic ink on lithographic plates, so less hardcore than stone but still unnecessarily complicated.

Originally I wanted the red to be magenta but I was stupid and didn't account for the fact that the ink was translucent. But thanks to the power of photoshop we can pretend that wasn't the case.

I had to make six one-of-a-kind pieces using the same image. These are the uglier of the three as I gave the first half away during a print swap.

Beginning Lithography - Drowning

So, I don't know how much you know about lithography but it's really damn hard. First just preparing the stone to be drawn on takes a lot of time if you're new at what you're doing and then there are a lot of different ways to apply the image to the stone, some of which are more difficult than others. I made the mistake of trying to use tusche right off the bat, which is a wash medium that is very difficult to do properly. In retrospect, this was a very poor decision and this image had to be worked back into a variety of times before I was able to print and even now it still isn't quite where it's supposed to be. Anyway, that is why there are no posts for the first half of the semester for this class. It took me that long to make an image that wasn't totally destroyed in the process of trying to get all the chemical processes to work out.
